Resumen

El artículo describe la estructura cristalográfica de mTERF, un factor de terminación de la transcripción mitocondrial que parece estar también implicado en replicación, en complejo con el DNA que contiene la secuencia de unión. La proteína muestra una novedosa estructura de nueve motivos de tres hélices en forma triangular levógira que se repiten dando lugar a una superestructura que rodea el DNA.

Nuestra investigación trata de explicar la base estructural de la regulación de distintos procesos mitocondriales. La técnica principal que empleamos es el análisis por cristalografía de rayos X de las proteínas involucradas, de sus complejos con otras proteínas y/o con DNA. Para obtener una visión más completa del fenómeno, estos estudios se complementan mediante análisis bioquímicos y biofísicos.
